Salt Flats

Rain at the Salt Flats.

She licked the salt several times, always crinkling her nose in displeasure.

Rain and the Dentist

Rain had her first dental appointment today.  A few of my friends joked about taking a dog to get their teeth cleaned.  Rain is more than a dog though.

When I picked her up, she was pretty out of it.  She slipped trying to jump into the car.  And she slipped trying to jump onto the bed.  She must've been drugged up pretty good, lol.

Since she was so groggy, we just took a leisurely walk down by the lake later in the afternoon to catch the sunset.  In one of the photos, you can see where they shaved her hair to administer the anesthesia.

Am I a Photographer?

I've asked myself this fairly often.  Especially in the last few weeks.

No, I'm probably not.  Not in the traditional sense anyway.

I have not gone to photography school.  I've had no formal training.  No tutelage under an experienced photographer.

What I am is someone that enjoys taking pictures of things he cares about.  And right now that thing is a dog named Rain.

P. S.  This probably won't be seen by many people, but if, by chance, you have a dog that you'd like pictures of, feel free to let me know.

Rain's Family + Kiona

One of my favorite things to do with Rain is to visit her mom and dad and photograph them as they all play together.  Taking pictures of them is 50% anticipation, 50% luck, and 100% just enjoying the time.

This time though, there was an addition to the pack: Kiona.  She's a silver lab.  Quite rare, and quite beautiful as you'll see in the pictures.  Kiona is only 9 months old but already bigger than Rain.

Their owners are planning on having a litter next year with Kiona and Koda (Rain's dad).  Perhaps Rain will get a sister or brother?  Lol, I wish...

(All the shots were taken on my D7000 + f1.4 35mm at 1.4 and a varying shutter speed of 1/1000 or more.)

Spring

Back to familiar shooting grounds: Provo Bay.

Spring is here, which means a lot of the canyon roads will be opening up.  Which means a lot of hiking :)  But first, we'll have to get Rain back on preventative meds.

4 shot panorama down at Provo Bay.  Shot with 35mm 1.8 at f8 and 1/60 shutter speed about 30 minutes before sunset.  Postwork in Photoshop: image stitched and sharpened; cyans and yellows slightly deepened; split into triptych with black border; b&w applied to middle image; contrast increased on mountain in b&w image.
